Sakinah’s Story

Sakinah

Sakinah is a beautiful 13 year old girl who hails from a snake charmers nomad tribe of Baluchistan/Sindh in Pakistan. In January 2010, Sakinah was brought to one of the NASF free eye camps, but could not be helped because of her corneal opacity. After seeing her picture in early 2010, Mrs. Susanne Hawkins offered to pay for her eye surgery. It took us a year to find her again and 2 months to make all necessary arrangements for her corneal tissue graft surgery. Sakinah has been blind all her life and if everything goes well, and it will, she will be able to see the first time in her life. Please pray that her corneal transplantation surgery goes well.

She had the surgery on April 26, 2011 at the historic Uncle Saria Hospital in Karachi at 4:30pm Pakistan Standard Time. Please see below for pictures of Sakinah in 2010 before the surgery, as well as pictures during and after the procedure.

As of April 29, 2011 we have confirmation that Sakinah is doing well and can see for the first time in her life! What an exciting time in this young woman’s life.
