Welcome
The Nasreen and Alam Sher Foundation (NASF) is a non-governmental, non-religious, non-political and not for profit organization. It was formed in the USA in February 2007 by Dr. Alam Sher and Mrs. Nasreen A. Sher, who realized that people are more focused on areas of wealth and economic growth than giving significance to human care and development. Dr. Sher wanted to emphasize ways to give due respect to human development, freedom, caring about human rights, quality and equality in the lives of ordinary people. He led the formation and organization of the Nasreen and Alam Sher Foundation to promote health, education, humanities and peace in the South Asian countries and beyond.
The NA Sher Foundation has already awarded educational scholarships, in India and Pakistan. The Foundation has also refurbished a library for an all boys school and has donated merry go round for an all girls school in Lahore, Pakistan. Over 300 free eye surgeries, cataract removal, have been performed at the 5 free eye camps held by the foundation. The plans to hold 4 more eye camps have already been finalized for 2010-2011.
A 25 family disaster tent city was setup for the 2010 Pakistan flood ravaged families in Taunsa Sharif, Punjab, Pakistan. Five free medical camps, in Sindh and Punjab provinces of Pakistan, were also held to treat waterborne, skin diseases and other ailments. The preparations are in full swing for mass weddings of 25-30 couples from the flood affected families on December 25, 2010.
The Foundation basically runs by a 10 member board of directors. Some of the Board members also hold positions like the president, vice president, secretary and treasurer's positions. Each South Asian country is represented by a vice president with a vote. All decisions are made based on a majority vote. The foundation started to accept donations when the Foundation received its 501(c) (3) status.
The NASF believes that human development cannot be assessed with the economic growth of the country. It is about creating an environment in which people can demonstrate their capabilities and optimize its utilization.
